Mine Geologist - Open Pit

THE ROLE

Working a residential, family friendly roster (9:5), the Open Pit Mine Geologist is responsible for delivering the optimal ore grade to the Mineral Processing Plant, through accurate identification of mineralization, delineation of ore blocks, and supervision of extraction to minimize dilution. This includes scheduling, supervision of RC drilling programs, modeling of the resulting data, and providing technical support to the operational team during mining.

Key accountabilities include:

  • Design, schedule and oversee Reverse Circulation (RC) drilling programs to ensure provision of timely and accurate grade control data for analysis.
  • Undertake analysis, interpretation and modelling of data, including drill samples, resource definition plans and voids in order to accurately locate ore bodies and individual probe locations for the subsequent redevelopment and implementation of dig plans. As part of this process, examine Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) data and follow up on any issues with the laboratory in order to validate results used in estimation.
  • Coordinate and assist in the ore mark-up process to ensure easy identification of ore and waste blocks. In addition, provide support and training to Graduate Geologists to assist their development to becoming active members of the Grade Control team.
  • Design, implement and mark out access ways for production equipment to access blasted zones.
  • Monitor and adjust, via ore spotting, the ore extraction process to ensure the dig plan is correctly followed and minimise the risk of ore loss and ore dilution.
  • Coordinate the planning, implementation and monitoring of sample schedules to ensure accurate data is available for analysis.
  • Prepare weekly reports by collecting mining data to identify mining physicals and attainment to plan.
  • Prepare weekly grade control drilling and mining schedules with supervision from the Senior Mine Geologist.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Tertiary qualification in Geology
  • Recent Geology graduates looking to start their career in the mining industry are encouraged to apply
  • Experience in an Open Pit mining environment, preferred
  • Experience with 3D mining software, preferred
  • Developed interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to communicate at all levels of the organisation
  • Sound problem solving ability
  • National Police Clearance – valid within the last twelve (12) months

Mine Scheduling Engineer

THE ROLE

This residential position is responsible for coordinating the various stakeholders and developing the short term weekly mine schedule for Fimiston Open Pit operations to make sure all activities in the schedule are coordinated ensuring the weekly schedule is achievable and communicated.

Key accountabilities include:

  • Proactively encourage reporting of all incidents and accidents, review and monitor all incident and accident reports relevant to areas under influence. Ensure investigations and follow up actions are correctly implemented and completed to ensure that the Occupational Health and Safety Act is complied with at all times
  • Attend and chair planning and scheduling meetings with Mine Technical Services, Mine Production, Mine Operations, Mobile Maintenance and Mill Processing personnel and contribute to the achievement of production targets and continuous improvement activities.
  • The development and implementation of 24 hour production plans in line with operational targets.
  • The development and implementation of the fortnightly mine schedule in order to meet changing operational circumstances and requirements coordinate the input of off all the stakeholders contributing to the fortnightly mine schedule.
  • Develop short-term work instructions contributing to the achievement of daily and weekly Production targets.
  • Occasional pit design updates and design of pit floor roads and access point as a result of operational changes.
  • Develop and include in the weekly schedule the dumping strategy.
  • Providing guidance and input into the drill and blast and pit design processes.
  • Coordinate rehabilitation activities with the ESR Department.

REQUIREMENTS

Essential

  • A minimum of 5 years experience in a similar role
  • Proficient in the use of general mining software packages e.g.: Vulcan, Deswik
  • Proficient use of the Microsoft suite of software packages
  • Excellent personal organisational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize competing demands
  • Highly developed communication and influencing skills with the ability to liaise with all levels of the organisation
  • A tertiary qualification (minimum Bachelor level) in Mining Engineering, or relevant discipline
  • Must reside locally in the Goldfields region, or willing to relocate to Kalgoorlie
  • National Police Clearance within twelve (12) months of age
  • Unencumbered WA “C” Class Manual Drivers’ License.

Preferred

  • Quarry Managers Ticket highly desirable
  • Relevant professional membership e.g. Australian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy (AusIMM) or Institution of Engineering Australia.

Production Planner Scheduler

THE ROLE

The Production Planner/Scheduler ensures all Maintenance activities are planned and scheduled correctly so there is minimum interruption to the Processing Plant. In addition, the purpose of this residential role is to ensure that the work progresses on schedule in a safe and efficient manner.

Key Accountabilities include:

  • Provide input in the development of the rolling maintenance plan for the area, and have this ready each week tasks and approve work orders for corrective work.
  • Coordinate and assist Mineral Processing as required, ensuring isolations and Permit of Isolations are checked and audited to provide adequate safety in regards to isolations, permits and HOP’s.
  • Plan, prepare and execute non-routine Operational Tasks safely and in challenging time constraints.
  • Prepare isolation permits for major and minor plant and equipment outages to ensure Hazardous Energy Isolations are identified and documented prior to maintenance activities.
  • Work on Plant/Process improvement projects as part of a multi discipline team.
  • Ensure that all incidents and accidents are reported and are followed up correctly to minimise and manage risk and attend investigations where required, ensuring that the Occupational Health and Safety Act is complied with at all times.
  • Assist in scheduling all routine maintenance activities (work orders) in consultation with Maintenance including ensuring all information, materials and equipment are coordinated. Review and confirm the scope and urgency of requested P1 (priority 1– urgent work) and P2 (priority 2 – within 5 days) maintenance work submitted.
  • Ensure that shared resources are not overloaded by working with the other schedulers.
  • Ensure that all routine maintenance and operational activities, and those corrective maintenance activities able to be scheduled at a later time (non-breakdown), are loaded into a weekly schedule (or plan) that is adequately resourced with an appropriate allowance
  • Attend the weekly review/planning meeting (with Supervisors) – to review backlog and KPI’s. In addition review the upcoming weekly work plan.
  • Liaise and notify the Reliability team of any issues relating to asset strategy and condition monitoring.
  • Be the site wide Hazardous Energy Isolation champion to lead, coach and mentor others in the minimum Isolation standard accepted within KCGM as per the KCGM Critical Standard.

REQUIREMENTS

Essential

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in mineral processing unit operations with a demonstrated ability to improve process systems utilising best practice techniques.
  • Advanced planning and organisational skills contributing excellent time management and prioritisation of tasks.
  • Highly developed communication skills with importance placed on active listening to effectively assess team members and adapt training accordingly to ensure all outcomes are achieved.
  • Ability to work in a self-paced and self-managed structure.
  • Intermediate computer skills, particularly in Microsoft Office suite.
  • National Police Clearance within twelve (12) months of age
  • Must reside within the Goldfields region, or willing to relocate at own cost
  • Current Unencumbered Western Australian ‘C’ Class Drivers Licence.

Preferred

  • Metalliferous Mining, Mechanical or Electrical qualifications, or study thereto.

Voids Technician

THE ROLE

This technical support role involves working as part of a team to identify void areas to ensure that the hazards associated with remnant mining are managed and work is completed in safe manner.

This role is suitable for someone with a relatively small amount of mining experience with good analytical skills who is looking for an opportunity to learn, grow and contribute to a team who play a unique and crucial part of production in the Superpit.

Key Accountabilities include:

  • Undertake void management activities to ensure short term void risks are safely managed and that the hazards associated with historical workings are mitigated. This includes supporting requests from other internal areas, to assist with void identification and definition.
  • Ensure that void related hazards are identified and managed including but not limited to:
    • Determination of flagging and voids restrictions (areas identified with historical workings)
    • Designing of probe and RC holes for location and definition of historical workings
    • Conduct, process and triangulate Cavity Auto Laser Surveys (CALS)
  • Analyze data by reconciliation of several data sources to determine the location and nature of underground workings including;
    • Reviewing historical mine plans and sections including level modeling
    • Assessing drilling data from
      • Probe holes
      • Grade Control (RC) and Exploration holes
      • Resource Definition (Res Def) holes
      • Blast holes
    • Subsidence reports
    • Pit inspections
    • Open Pit mining history
    • Wire framing of historical and interpretive workings
    • CALS
    • Seismic monitoring and extensometer (as provided by the Geotechnical Department)
  • Ensure that void related hazards are safely managed including but not limited to:
    • Preconditioning by deep blasting
    • Planning and approving the backfilling of voids (where applicable)
    • Designing and identifying access paths for mining activities through underground workings
    • Investigation all subsidence reports (workings related and suspected) including hazardous ground encountered and reported during drilling
    • Inspection of all blasted shots
    • Ensure daily monitoring is conducted of underground workings uncovered by mining activities.
    • Ensure controls are implemented to manage historical workings
  • Ensure void related designs, information and approvals are communicated in a timely manner including but not limited to:
    • Flagging, voids restrictions and locations are updated in the PITS package for use by Fimiston Open Pit personnel.
    • Flagging information conveyed to the Survey Team for demarcation
    • Flagging information conveyed to Dispatch Team for loading into machinery/vehicles
    • Dig plans are conveyed to the Mining Team for digging
    • Complete access approvals for personnel and machinery in and around void areas
    • Complete voids related assessment including; PCWAC, Environmental and Drilling Approvals
  • Assist the Voids Technician Project in medium to long term voids related tasks as required.
  • Comply with all reasonable and lawful instructions that are consistent with your contract of employment.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Experience in an Open Pit or Gold processing/mining environment preferred
  • Experience in the Drill and Blast functions, or Survey functions of an Open Pit highly regarded
  • Excellent communication skills across a diverse group of people
  • Higher Education in process towards a Mining Engineering, Surveying, Geology highly regarded
  • Excellent Computer literacy required, Vulcan Software Skills extremely beneficial
  • Must reside locally in the Goldfields region for a minimum of at least six (6) months
  • National Police Clearance – valid within the last twelve (12) months
  • Current Unencumbered manual Western Australian “C” Class Drivers Licence.

Plant Metallurgist

THE ROLE

Working in the KCGM Mineral Processing Technical Services team, this residential role provides ongoing metallurgical performance management of the assigned sections of the Fimiston Processing Plant to ensure metallurgical opportunities for process improvements are identified and implemented effectively at both Fimiston and Gidji.

Key Accountabilities include:

  • Monitor metallurgical results for assigned sections and make process recommendations to ensure agreed targets are met or exceeded.
  • Provide training and technical support to metallurgical, production and maintenance teams to enhance knowledge and optimize plant performance.
  • Monitor and report on metallurgical performance on a regular basis to ensure key process information and identified threats and opportunities are communicated to relevant personnel in a timely manner.
  • Work closely with Geologists and Mining Engineers to ensure a productive Mine-to-Mill relationship is maintained through active dissemination of information relating to plant performance.
  • Comply with all reasonable and lawful instructions that are consistent with your contract of employment.

REQUIREMENTS

Essential

  • A minimum of two (2) years experience in mineral processing or related industries
  • A demonstrated ability to understand and utilize process control applications to improve process metallurgy
  • Working knowledge of metallurgical test work flow sheets and procedures
  • Ability to understand and develop plant Piping & Instrumentation Drawings
  • Demonstrated ability to identify potential problems and react in a timely manner with a proven solution
  • Excellent process analysis and technical problem solving skills
  • High level of computer skills, particularly Excel
  • Well developed verbal and written communication skills
  • Proven time management, planning and organisational skills
  • A tertiary degree qualification in Chemical Engineering, Extractive Metallurgy or a related discipline
  • Nationally Accredited High Risk Forklift Licence
  • National Police Clearance less than 12 months old
  • Current Unencumbered Western Australian “C” Class Drivers Licence
  • Must reside in the Goldfields Region or be willing to relocate at own cost.

Light Vehicle Mechanic

THE ROLE

The Assets Department is responsible for the delivery of KCGM’s maintenance facilities. The department consists of the Planning & Reliability team, Site Services team, Projects & Engineering team, Fixed Plant Maintenance, Mobile Maintenance and the Continuous Improvement team. The Department interacts significantly with the Mineral Processing functions.

The purpose of this role is to perform preventative and break-down maintenance on Company light vehicles (LV) and lighting plants to ensure planned maintenance and operations based activities are followed to meet site operational plans, targets and objectives.

Key Accountabilities include:

  • Undertake service, maintenance repairs and statutory inspections of light vehicles and lighting plants to ensure these fleets are available and reliable for operations as required.
  • Ensure appropriate safety procedures are adhered to prior to undertaking work orders to ensure tasks are conducted in a safe and efficient manner. Safety procedures include but are not limited to, Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) and work permits.
  • Provide coaching and mentoring to Apprentices to assist in their development in their chosen career.
  • Maintain a high standard of housekeeping in the work area both during and after completing a job.
  • Liaise with the LV Coordinator to ensure required parts are available as required and tasks identified are captured in the planning process.
  • Complete daily timesheets and add any essential comments, drawing or photographs.
  • Deliver and pickup vehicles from external repairers and conduct QA/QC inspections.

REQUIREMENTS

Essential

  • Trade Certificate in Automotive Mechanics or higher.
  • Minimum of three (3) years post trade Diesel or Light Vehicle mechanic experience.
  • Good organisational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize break down work.
  • Good customer services skills.
  • Reside within the Goldfields region
  • Current Unencumbered Western Australian “C” Class Drivers Licence.
  • Intermediate level computer literacy

Preferred

  • Previous experience with lighting towers, light vehicle and light truck (Isuzu) maintenance.

Maintenance Support Technician - Mechanical Trade Assistant (12 Month Fixed Term)

THE ROLE

This 5:2 residential role will see you assisting the maintenance or electrical team in carrying out preventative, planned and breakdown mechanical maintenance for the KCGM Fimiston and Gidji circuits, ensuring optimum operating conditions are achieved, with ongoing efficiency, reliability and safety focus.

THE ROLE

This essential position will see you performing preventative and ongoing breakdown electrical maintenance to the Mineral Processing plant to ensure the plant continues to function at optimum gold production levels. In addition, this position will see you working predominately a Monday to Friday roster, promoting work/life balance with 5 weeks annual leave per annum.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum of two (2) years electrical maintenance experience in a mining environment
  • Australian “A” Grade Electrical Licence and/or endorsed Electrical Fitter/Electrician qualification.
  • Certificate IV in Instrumentation
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and experience in Telemetry Control Systems.
  • Intermediate computer skills, in particular Microsoft Office, Word.
  • Experience in the generation and recording of Work Orders.
  • Experience in the generation of Job Hazard Assessments (JHA’s) and safety observations.
  • Demonstrated initiative and problem solving skills.
